Introducing FDF Dolls

FDFdolls.com is the brainchild two sisters, Marsha and Donna, (that's us!) whose passion for fashion dolls began as a small fun-filled hobby but escalated to a large collection of dolls and fashion accessories. For several years, Donna had collected Barbie dolls, and later expanded her interests to other brands of fashion dolls and action figures.

Collection

Marsha, a prolific knitter, tried her hand at making dolls clothes and perfected her technique and output. She eventually decided to create a website where she could sell her creations.

FashionAfter more than two years of intensive work (mostly by Marsha!), we have launched FDFdolls.com, a website to share our enjoyment of fashion dolls and accessories, and to offer for sale online an astounding variety of one-of-a-kind creations and items from our personal collections.

Why FDF Dolls? Many names were bandied about, including "Sixth Scale Doll Stuff" and "Fashion Doll Fanatic." Finally we settled on "FDF Dolls" to shorten the name from "Fashion Doll Fanatic" but reflect our passion for fashion dolls and accessories.

Never too old to play!

Many people enjoy collecting dolls and have for centuries. Dolls are not just toys for children. There is a thriving market for adult collectors, with subgroups of doll enthusiasts who collect strictly by brand or character, or by specific type and size of doll. Some people like antique dolls, others prefer newborn/toddler dolls, and still others focus only on certain kinds of dolls like, for instance, American Girl or Polly Pocket. Our interest happens to be fashion dolls.

Over the years, many doll manufacturers have come and gone, and there's a whole set of collectors looking strictly for dolls that are no longer being made. Demand may vary, as well as supply, which can drive the price of what's available. Resale value of certain dolls can fluctuate wildly.

Additionally, customizers have created a specialized market for one-of-a-kind modified dolls and accessories. Some of the work done by customizers is absolutely breathtaking. As an example, go online to check out the celebrity doll repaints by Noel Cruz - click here to see! If only we could be so paintstakingly talented!

You can find many more examples of dolls artists, clothiers, action figure enthusiasts, and crafters who post tutorials on YouTube. My Froggy Stuff is a great source for kid-friendly doll crafting ideas with plenty of tutorials on YouTube, a website with printable crafting aids, and more.

There's also a group of doll and YouTube enthusiasts - kids as well as adults - who enjoy producing and sharing live-action voice-over mini-movies and stop-action movies to entertain their followers. You can find tutorials online for that, too. But be careful - you just might find yourself adopting a new creative outlet!

You don't have to be a serious collector to enjoy the fun of dolls. There are plenty of folks with whom you can share your interests. However, if you're just beginning a doll collection, do some research to decide what kind of dolls you want to collect and what kind of collection you can afford. If you're not sure about long-term collecting, you may want to restrict your purchases to just a few reasonably priced dolls for fun and play. The important thing is not to go overboard too quickly, until you find out what you're truly interested in and have time and money to accomplish.

At FDFdolls.com, we enjoy redressing and photographing fashion dolls to show the almost endless variety of fashion combinations. For us it's a pasttime, maybe a bit of an obsession, but as long as we're having fun, we'll continue. And you can too. Browse our site at your leisure, pick out things you like, and feel free to come back later to find new and different items. And don't forget - have fun!
